In this blog, we’re highlighting three distinctive catering options that demonstrate tasty local flair. A little mom and pop catering business big on flavor. A specialty sandwich shop that serves up a taste of New Orleans. An old grocery store known for the “best catfish” for miles around. These featured catering options will help your guests continue their love affair with the storied City of Oxford.
Oby’s
With restaurants in Starkville and Oxford, Mississippi, Oby’s is a local legend famous for po’boys. The owner Don O’Bannon is a military veteran who always dreamed of opening up a restaurant. Years ago, he traveled throughout New Orleans learning the secrets of mouthwatering seafood, shrimp, oyster, alligator, and crawfish po’boys. Word of his Oby’s po’boys spread and rest is history. At the Oxford Conference Center, you have the opportunity to offer your guests Oby’s po’boys, rotel, and delicious Cajun cuisine such as chicken tenders, jambalaya, red beans and rice, sausage and cheese, and fried catfish.
Party Waitin’ to Happen
A mother and son duo, Chef Wiley and his mother Ibby opened their doors over 20 years ago. Their menu is influenced by Wiley’s time cooking all over the country, so you can expect everything from Caribbean lime tartlets and banana pudding shots to Grilled Quail Etouffee and Goat Cheese Gritcakes with Blackened Mississippi Catfish. Every dish is made with love, and every tablescape comes complete with a personal touch. An ultra-professional staff and the ability to design the perfect spread for any occasion make Party Waitin’ to Happen an absolute must when it comes to wowing a crowd.
Taylor Grocery
Taylor Grocery is a grocery store that’s over 100 years old. The restaurant portion opened in 1977 serving up catfish to locals. Over the years, it has become known as “That Catfish Place” to travelers and is popular among the national media. This is down-home country food with no frills and plenty of TLC. You’ll be able to offer your attendees delicious Southern breakfast buffets, Taylor Grocery’s nationally renowned catfish fry, and Southern barbeque feasts for lunch and dinner. Options abound with this offering—you can even serve up unique snacks ranging from turnip green dip to pimento cheese corn dip. Don’t forget about their homemade vanilla ice cream for breaks! Churned on site, it’s as fresh as it gets. Talk about making your event memorable!
